Parody

Wikipedia gives a good definition and also other words that have the same meaning.[1]Parodies are usually humorous. Recently I received a very clever parody of the famous Simon and Garfunkel song The Sounds of Silence[2]. The parody is about the corona virus. It uses the same music as the song, but the lyrics have been changed to be about the corona virus[3].

Saturday Night Live[4]is a late-night American television program that began in 1975 and is still popular today. Many of its skits are parodies of politicians. Currently President Trump is often a target of their parodies. If you go to YouTube and enter “SNL Trump parody” you will see several examples. Here is one[5].

As you can see from the two examples, the content can differ greatly which in turn affects the humor. The parody of the song was clever and rather than denigrate[6]or deride[7]the original song, it attempts to provide useful information as well. However, the SNL parody blatantly[8]does denigrate and deride the president. In this case, those who dislike Trump and are opposed to him think the parody is funny whereas Trump supporters would most likely find the parody offensive.
